Planning Application
We have submitted a planning application to Rutland County Council for the redevelopment of the Officers’ Mess in Edith Weston. The planning application reference is 2023/0822/OUT. We anticipate the application will be determined towards the end of this year.
The council has now begun its statutory consultation and will be contacting residents to understand their views. To comment on our proposals, please click here to view the application on Rutland County Council’s Planning Portal.
The masterplan includes:
- 85 new homes which reflect the visual character of the village.
- Space for an average of 2.2 vehicles per dwelling to ensure there are adequate parking spaces.
- Space for a new commercial premises.
- A series of green spaces, including a new village green and children’s play area.
- The retention of the majority of existing trees and hedgerows to keep the site green and promote nature.
Site
The Officers’ Mess is a 4-hectare (10-acre) brownfield site – adjacent to St George’s Barracks but separate from the main base – situated on the corner of Manton Road (which forms its northern boundary) and Edith Weston Road (which forms its eastern boundary).
The land will be sold when the Army vacates the site in 2026.
Vision
Our vision for the site is to replace the Officers’ Mess with a development that makes a positive contribution to the village. A development that makes the site more open and accessible, with new homes that reflect the local character, buildings and landscape.
